Day by day

  1. Day 1Arrival Guwahati - Shillong

    Up to Shillong past Umiam Lake, blue between the pine ridges, then check in and let Police Bazar take care of the evening. Overnight in Shillong.

  2. Day 2Shillong Sightseeing

    Shillong Peak for the view across the plateau, Elephant Falls in its three drops, Ward's Lake in the centre of town, and the Don Bosco Museum, which explains the whole northeast better than anything else will. Overnight in Shillong.

  3. Day 3Shillong - Cherrapunjee

    Through the Mawkdok Valley, the road running along the rim of a gorge, down to Cherrapunjee for Nohkalikai and the Seven Sisters. Overnight in Cherrapunjee.

  4. Day 4Root Bridge Trek - Mawlynnong

    Down through wet forest to Nongriat and the Double Decker Living Root Bridge — grown, not built, from rubber roots trained across the stream over generations. Then Mawlynnong, kept immaculate by the villagers themselves, and the Balancing Rock nearby. Overnight in Cherrapunjee.

  5. Day 5Cherrapunjee - Dawki - Shnongpdeng

    On to Dawki, with Krang Suri Falls and its blue pool on the way. Boating on the Umngot, which is clear enough that the boat seems to hover above the riverbed. A night by the water at Dawki or Shnongpdeng.

  6. Day 6Dawki - Guwahati Departure

    Breakfast by the river, then four hours back to Guwahati for onward travel.
