Day by day

  1. Day 1Arrive Imphal

    Kangla Fort to begin — the old seat of the Manipuri kings, moated and walled in the middle of Imphal. Then Ima Keithel, several thousand stalls run entirely by women and passed down through generations of them. There is nothing else like it anywhere.

  2. Day 2Loktak Lake

    Loktak for the day: the largest freshwater lake in the northeast, its surface broken into floating islands of matted vegetation, some big enough to build a hut on. Keibul Lamjao, the only floating national park in the world and the last refuge of the Sangai deer. And the long view down over all of it from Sendra.

  3. Day 3Khonghampat Orchidarium, Departure

    The orchid garden at Khonghampat in the morning, where the region's native species are kept and flowering, then departure.
