Day by day

1. Day 1Arrive Kuala Lumpur

   Kuala Lumpur on the first day — the Petronas Towers, and Batu Caves up its 272 painted steps to a limestone cavern under an enormous gold statue.

2. Day 2Genting Highlands

   Up to Genting Highlands for the day, out of the heat and into cloud, with a resort city at the top of the cable car.

3. Day 3KL to Singapore

   Across the border into Singapore, and an evening free in a city that runs like a machine and looks like a garden.

4. Day 4Singapore City Tour

   Merlion Park, Gardens by the Bay with its Supertree Grove standing over the waterfront, and Marina Bay — Singapore showing off, and doing it well.

5. Day 5Sentosa Island

   Sentosa: Universal Studios Singapore if rides are your thing, or the beaches and the rest of the island if they are not.

6. Day 6Singapore Leisure

   Orchard Road for the shopping, or the Night Safari, where the park opens after dark and the animals are actually awake.

7. Day 7Departure

   Transfer to Changi for the flight home.
