Day by day

  1. Day 1Arrive Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur on arrival. The Petronas Towers for the photograph, still the tallest twin towers on earth; Batu Caves up 272 painted steps under an enormous gold statue, with a limestone cavern and temple at the top; and KLCC Park to sit down afterwards.

  2. Day 2Genting Highlands Day Trip

The cable car up to Genting Highlands, climbing out of the heat into cloud, and a resort city built on a mountaintop with a casino and theme park at the summit if either appeals.

  3. Day 3Fly to Langkawi

A short flight to Langkawi, then the resort, then nothing at all — which is what the island is for.

  4. Day 4Langkawi Sightseeing

The Cable Car up Machinchang and out onto the Sky Bridge, a curved footbridge slung between peaks with the Andaman Sea underneath. Eagle Square in town, and duty-free shopping that is a genuine reason people come.

  5. Day 5Departure

Transfer to the airport for the flight home.
