Day by day

1. Day 1Arrive Kathmandu

   Into Kathmandu for Pashupatinath, a Hindu temple complex on the Bagmati where cremations take place in the open on the ghats, and Boudhanath, one of the largest stupas in the world with its painted eyes looking out over a ring of pilgrims walking it clockwise.

2. Day 2Kathmandu Sightseeing

   Kathmandu Durbar Square, a square of pagoda temples and old palace courtyards at the heart of the city, then up to Swayambhunath — the Monkey Temple — on its hill, for the view back over the whole valley through prayer flags.

3. Day 3Drive to Pokhara

   West to Pokhara by road or a short flight, arriving under the Annapurnas. Out on Phewa Lake in the evening, with the mountains reflected in it if the sky is clear.

4. Day 4Pokhara Sightseeing

   Sunrise from Sarangkot, watching the Annapurna range come out of the dark one peak at a time. Then Davis Falls, where the river disappears into the rock, and the Gupteshwor Cave beneath it.

5. Day 5Return to Kathmandu, Departure

   Back to Kathmandu and away.
